The Quarterly Newsletter of the Discovery Pioneers

Chapter #1, Discovery Owners Association, Inc.

Vol 3, #4           1Q and 2Q, 2003

President's Message                                      by Bob Hixson

Hello to all the Discovery Pioneers,

How is this for retirement-sit in the middle of Kansas typing the President's message, in the coach of course, because it is raining outside?  I wish more of you could make it, as it should be a blast.  I know Joyce and Jerry have put a lot of effort into it. Just think the cocktail hour starts in two hours.

First, I would like to welcome three new members who joined us last month in Ft. Collins.  These three couples have known each other for some time and followed one another in to buy their new 2003 D's that look alike, except one is a 39 footer with three slides.  The other two only have a mere two.  But, there is another reason to welcome them into the group.  We now have someone to follow Nina as newsletter editor.  We didn't tell her about those shoes.  Anyway, even before Jack and Yvonne Greenbaum got a chance to pay their dues, Yvonne was volunteered by one of her "friends", and accepted this challenge.  Thank you.  The other new members are, Larry and Deb Loss, 10720 W.102nd Place, Westminister, Co. 80021 and John and Paula Lyda, 1457 Zinnia Circle,Lafayette, Co.80026.   The Greenbaum's  live at 8445 W. 97th Place, Westminister, Co.80021.

For the first rally in 2003 we had the sad occasion to bid farewell to two of our founding members.  Ed and Olive Kennedy have now left us for Maui, Hawaii.  For the newer members info, Ed and Olive helped immensely getting the Discovery Pioneers organized and even are responsible for our logo.  Recognize that couple in the Conestoga?

At the conclusion of the Kansas rally, we leave for the joint rally with the Northwest Adventurers to work on the details of the national rally in Washington this September.   We brought winter clothes for Montana, but we will probably have to launder some, because it is cold in Kansas.  Mark September 23 through the 27 on your trip calendars and plan to help at the rally.  Carl Ropp is in charge of parking and I am in charge of the food.   We need a good showing from the Pioneers.
-Bob

Editor's Message   by Yvonne Greenbaum

My name is Yvonne Greenbaum and I am new to the Discovery Pioneers, as well as new to being a Discovery owner.  My husband Jack and I traded up to our new Discovery in February, having traded our 2001 Pace Arrow.  We are very happy with our new unit and are looking forward to our travels with the Discovery Pioneers.

Please contact me in the future if you would like to put anything in The Milepost. I look forward to meeting all the members of the Discovery Pioneers Chapter.  Have a great summer everyone!                                                                             n

Rally Master's Report     by Carl Ropp

Thanks to the May rally hosts, Bob and Nina Soltwedel, and Ed and Olive Kennedy for a very good rally. This was Ed and Olive's last rally before moving to Maui. We wish them luck and hope they will visit future rallies. The weather was not very cooperative, but we really needed the moisture so no one that I am aware of complained.

Jerry and Joyce Weichman have planned a very nice rolling rally and have put a lot of work into it. If you miss this rally, you will have missed a one of a kind rally that promises to be an exciting good time in Kansas. If you change your mind, you can call Joyce for your late registration.  Rally dates are June 5, 6, 7th and 8th.

We will be caravanning from the Kansas rally to the National planning rally at the Yellowstone Edge RC Park in Emigrant, MT.  If anyone wishes to join the caravan, we will stop the first night in Cheyenne, on June 8th.

It was voted at the May rally to hold the Sept. rally in conjunction with the National rally in Kennewich, WA, Sept. 23rd -27th, 2003.  I hope most of our members will make plans to attend this rally in the fall.  Northwest Adventurers are hosting this rally and some of our members are volunteering to help.  We know that Leo and Jackie Everitt and the rest of the NW Adventurers have put a lot of hard work into making this a rally that you won't want to miss.  Leo tells us there is a lot to see and do in that part of the country.

Now I want to mention the July rally at Sidney, NE.  If you have not had the pleasure of visiting the Cabela's store, we can tell you that the wildlife displays are fabulous.  Marge and I have both been there before many times, but while visiting there to make plans for this rally, we still spend several hours just looking around and guess what . . . we did not make it out without making some purchases.  So we hope you will make this rally one of most importance for the year 2003.  We have not made a lot of mandatory things to do, we want you to be able to look, see and enjoy on your own free time.
